Brief
With the introduction of more digital reading methods it has often been said print is dying out.  My task was to explore the potential for print design and experiment with how it can be used effectively to push the boundaires of the medium.  The brief asked to explore the idea of how a reader can be immersed in the format of a book and make it more engaging.

Concept
My concept was to compare both print and digital book design to show why print is the better medium for story telling, showing as a result that print is not dead because of digital design.

To do this I took a classic novel with the idea that classic stories are 'Dead' such as print is said to be and created two different books both containing the same text- I used 4 of the Grimmís Fairy Tales for this.

Within the first book I replicated how the book would appear on a Kindle but in a printed form.  I used the scale, colour and typefaces within an actual Kindle to represent digital storytelling.  The second book I created was designed to show the alternative, I experimented with paper stocks, colour, images and double page spreads to show many of the things that digital design can't do that make a story come alive.

To make the comparison as fair as possible, I made both books the same size, based on the exact dimentions of a Kindle 1st Generation 3G.  I also used the digital book to show many of the capabilities of a Kindle, showing the ability to change margins, typeface, text size and line spacing.  However many of these options can lead to typographical errors within the book, spoiling the beauty of a perfectly set page as you would see within a printed book.
